Maryland State Police helicopters were busy in neighboring West Virginia on Sunday.
A state police helicopter crew crossed state lines twice on Sunday to rescue three people in a pair of back-to-back hoist missions on Sunday, Aug. 13. Scaffolding Lift
The long day began shortly after 7:45 a.m. on Sunday morning, when crews were called to a stretch of woods in Tucker County, where a father suffered an injury while hiking with his 13-year-old son the day before.
Once overhead, the 49-year-old injured hiker, and his teen son were located along the Red Creek Trail in Dolly Sods along the river, where they hoisted them approximately 170 feet into the helicopter and took him to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for treatment of his injuries.
The second rescue was reported in the same area of Tucker County at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, when they were called in while returning from the previous mission.
Back at the Red Creek Trail in Dolly Sods, troopers found a 55-year-old man alongside the river’s edge. They again hovered approximately 150 feet above the injured hiker, who was hoisted into the helicopter and taken to the hospital.
The condition of all three was not available on Monday morning.
