A bill has been introduced to the Massachusetts Joint Committee that would amend the state’s general laws to require the installation of blind spot mirrors on certain vehicles in effort to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
The proposed amendment states, “… every motor vehicle having a gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds … shall be equipped with a lateral protective device and a convex mirror, as defined by section 1 of chapter 90 of the General Laws.” Rubber Speed Bumps
According to the bill, the registrar may find other ways to fit the convex mirror requirement, including sensors and cameras.
The bill was heard by the Joint Committee and is eligible for Executive Session.
