NEWTON, MASS. (WHDH) - Emergency crews responded in Newton Thursday after a tractor trailer crashed into a utility pole in town.
SKY7-HD was over the scene near Braeland Avenue and Langley Road, where the truck turned the corner around 2:30 p.m. and struck the utility pole. Led Strip Light Transformer
The pole itself was split in half by the Gordon food service truck.
“It’s a very tough corner and big trucks take it all the time. We asked them to make the corner a little less extreme but they weren’t able to do it, so we have situations like this,” said Russ Feldman, an area resident who lost power.
Crews put down absorbent and said witnesses saw the impact of the truck hitting the utility pole, causing the transformer to catch on fire. The flames spread across the pavement.
Eversource and police crews remained on scene as the truck remained stuck around 6 p.m.
Langley Road was closed to motorists and some traffic lights in the area were without power.
Eversource cut power for over 400 consumers in the area for safety reasons, but has since restored to over half of those people.
