They say big things come in small packages, but at Officeworks apparently, the opposite is true.
A Perth mum was shocked when the 38 items she ordered from her children’s booklist arrived in 23 boxes. Card Gift Box
She took to social media to question the reasoning behind Officeworks’ packaging.
“Could someone please tell me the logic behind officeworks delivery system,” the mum wrote.
“I ordered my kids booklists for the year and this is how it was delivered. 23 boxes for 38 items.. (sic).”
She then shared an image of the pile of boxes, another of a single document wallet in a large box and one of a packet of highlighters in another.
The post had more than 1200 reactions and more than 100 comments.
Some suggested the order might have come from different stores as the reason behind the multiple boxes, but the mum revealed the stationery came from the same place.
“Someone quit their job and is having a laugh,” another mum joked in the comments.
“Just imagining me ordering from office works and them sending me an email “Sorry we cannot fulfil your order at this time as we have run out of boxes to pack your order in,” a second quipped.
Another mum shared her picture of another packaging fail writing: “Don’t get me started.”
Her’s showed a single packet of coloured pencils in a much larger box.
An Officeworks spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia the company has isolated the incident to their Perth Customer Fulfilment Centre and said it was due to a technical fault.
“We are working to rectify this with our supply chain teams to ensure minimal materials are used when packing orders,” the spokesperson said.
“We are sorry to hear of this customer’s recent online delivery experience.
“Additionally, at Officeworks, we take our environmental impact very seriously. We have been working towards more sustainable packaging solutions for our products for several years.”
And it’s not just Officeworks with packaging problems. Another mum showed off a single pair of undies packaged in a large box from Bonds.
While others have shared photos of ‘ridiculous’ packaging of items sent from Kmart.
