Jeremy Coller picked up laser engraving as a young teenager because he thought that quotes from other companies were “astronomical.”
Now, the 18-year-old Mentor resident engraves signs, real estate gifts, promotional items and more through his Concord Township-based Infinity Laser Engraving Company.
The company’s online storefront opened in 2023, four years after he developed an interest in the craft.
“I actually got started when I wanted to open a household oil company,” Coller said. “I was going to do glass bottles etched with our logo, and I was looking into it, and they wanted such an astronomical amount for their engravings.”
“I’m like, well, I can go pick up the machines and everything and do it myself, and then after a while, it shifted full gear into just doing this,” he added.
Coller said that his interest in business dates back to when he was “5 or 6 years old” and sold various pieces of jewelry and “tiny trinkets.”
“My mindset has always been starting businesses,” he stated, adding that he has family members who have operated businesses.
After purchasing the engraving equipment, Coller began making items for others, and his company joined the Willoughby Western Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
“It was just kind of one thing after another,” he said. “Now, I do it all the time.”
Coller said that trying to open a business before reaching adulthood posed challenges for hiring, entering contracts and acquiring space.
He said that the building has proven to be his “biggest challenge.”
“I actually started out of a room in the basement that was, I think, four feet wide,” he said. “You had shelves on one side, the machines on other.”
His grandfather is currently providing Infinity with space, though he plans for the business to eventually acquire its own headquarters.
“My grandpa has been the biggest help through there all the way,” Coller said.
Others priorities include growing the business and potentially joining more associations.
Regarding his service area, Coller said that he would “like to stick to just Northeast Ohio at the moment, really get it established around here, and then maybe expand out in the future.”
“I like the idea of meeting people face-to-face and talking to them,” he added.
Coller said that the company offers “over 1,500 products.” His website includes contact information, catalogs, products and a page for quote requests.
“For the real estate gifts, we do a lot of higher-end stuff,” he said. “Custom barbecue sets, glassware, mantle clocks. As for the promotional stuff, we do a lot of the tumbler-type cups. We do a ton of the cork coasters, etched with people’s logos on them. We do a lot of custom woodcutting as well.”
Other products that Infinity engraves include leather patches for hats and shirts and various types of engraved signs, such as door plates and building hour signs.
