The luxury Hilltop resort covers 8,000 square feet and boasts a gold leaf and wrought iron door entrance, crystal chandelier, detailed crown molding, white tufted leather sofa and other stylish decor. Also, it offers 2,500 square feet of outdoor space for its furry clientele. That’s because K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel caters to canine customers.
The posh accommodations are meant to make sure man’s best friend has a great vacation just like its owners. The five-star experience filled with frills and amenities is like a Ritz Carlton for doggies.
The Virginia Beach pet hotel is the first in the state for the franchise established in 2005 out of New Jersey. Christina Jensen, owner of the Hilltop location, said she decided to bring the luxury canine hotel to Virginia Beach after being a customer for years. Jensen said it was a dream of hers to relocate from New Jersey to Virginia Beach, so the franchise opportunity and business concept appealed to her.
“When I decided I wanted to leave the corporate world and do something different with the second half of my career, I learned that K9 Resorts, which I have been a client of for my own dogs for six years, had franchising opportunities,” Jensen said. “The more I learned about the brand from an ownership perspective, the more intrigued I was. I thought what better business to get into than one where I truly understand the customer because I am a customer.”
Jensen said some of the differentiators of K9 Resorts is the exceptional customer service, cage-free luxury boarding options and state-of-the-art facilities. The most lavish canine accommodation is the Luxury Suite. The 8×8 cage-free space includes an in-suite television tuned to Animal Planet or Dog TV, Kuranda luxury dog bedding, glass privacy doors, Blue Buffalo meals and choice of all-day group play or individual playtime with staff. Other options include Executive Rooms with a 5×7 space and traditional compartment boarding.
A spacious outdoor courtyard features playground equipment and synthetic turf that’s designed for easy clean up and sanitization. K9 Resorts offers a day care option during the day that’s split into two separate groups based on dog size. Additionally, the staff is trained in pet first aid and CPR, and the pet resort has a partnership with Coastal Vet, a concierge vet that offers 24/7 access.
Susan Cataldo was extremely happy with K9 Resorts when she dropped off her dog Bella for boarding. While being boarded, her dog had a medical situation, and Jensen drove the dog to the vet in her own vehicle.
“Above and beyond doesn’t describe what they do at K9 Resorts,” Cataldo said. “You will not find this type of care anywhere else. It’s an amazing facility with the most caring team.”
